Lehenga is a traditional wedding attire worn by brides all over India. Hence, it’s officially an ‘Indian symbol’ for weddings. Therefore, the lehenga outfit is chosen for
the main wedding ritual in North India. However, trends are going upside down in
these years. Engagement, haldi, sangeet or wedding, brides appear in lehenga for a
variety of rituals, now! A lehenga consists of a heavily embroidered blouse, flowy long
skirt and a beautiful dupatta (long-detailed scarf-like cloth). We are here with some
versatile bridal poses in Lehenga!. Let’s begin, Shall
we?

1) The Classic Overhead Pose

Bridal Poses in a Lehenga

Well, this one is an evergreen pose. To clarify, it is a very simple yet a must try pose.
Firstly, you need to sit down or kneel on the floor, in an impressive background. Now,
spread your long skirt all around evenly, to show off its details. Gaze up towards the
camera or elsewhere. That’s it. It is so easy, isn’t it? This particular pose was
something that was tried often by lehenga brides from the 90s. Most importantly, this
pose has proven its immortality by appearing in all the prominent lehenga fashion
shows. This posture will warm you up for your wedding photoshoot with a rush of
confidence.

2)A Shy Glance-Down

Outdoor shoots in a lehenga have numerous possibilities. Especially because of the
overwhelming grace of the outfit. This is a side pose and all you have to do is be
yourself. Spark a sweet smile and glance down slightly. Then, lift your skirt a little
up. You can even pop your jutti or heels outside and look at your mehendi stained
feet. Natural daylight will do maximum justice to this pose. Therefore, step outside
with your photographer and lookout for a pretty nook. And, just work your lehenga
magic!

3)Natural Sky Gaze

This pose is very similar to the one which we just discussed. But, there is a tiny
difference. Since this a straight/candid portrait, make sure to find a suitable backdrop,
preferably outdoors. A contrasting background will compliment your outfit, which
again is great! Our bride is wearing a bright red lehenga, standing in a green and ashy
backdrop. As a result, her outfit is popping and is drawing our attention. For this pose,
rest your hands one above the other in a relaxed position. And, gaze up at the sky with
a cute smile. You shall think about the exciting new beginning with your
fiance/husband. Thereby, your smile will reflect a ray of hope and happiness.

4)An Effortless Sit-Down Pose

Here is our celebrity bride posing flawlessly in her amazing outfit. Royal furniture
plays an important role in sit-down lehenga poses. Help your photographer to find a
suitable couch or chair for your exciting sit-down pose. Firstly, sit down and spread
your skirt aesthetically. Secondly, reach at a comfortable yet diverse posture as a part
of getting ready for the photo. Now, strike a wide smile and look away from the
camera. Done and dusted! Colour coordination will improve the beauty of the final
result. Therefore, make an effort to match your outfit with the furniture and
background.

5)The Sabyasachi Portrait

Sabyasachi Mukherjee is a well known Indian fashion designer famous for his
lehenga outfits. He portrays his works through elegant couple portraits.
Undoubtedly, his works and the way its showcased has created a wave in the Indian
wedding fashion. So, why not try a super-trendy Sabyascahi bridal pose? We shall
start with finalizing a solid background which is color coordinated with your outfits.
Now, the bride and groom may pose by standing next to each other. The couple may
hold each others hands in a relaxed manner. Confidence is the key for acing this pose.
Therefore, channel your inner confident self and bring an edgy feel to your face.
There are two ways to conquer the gaze. Either the couple can look straight into the
camera. Or, one may look straight into the camera eye, while the other person looks
away.

6)A Sit-Down Couple Pose

This one resembles our Sabyasachi pose. We need the same attitude for the bride and
groom. Therefore, pull up your confidence level and shoot an elegant gaze towards
the camera eye. The bride shall sit down while the groom stands closely holding his
suit or sherwani. A color-coordinated background is important here as well. Added to
that, the background may also be subtle. So that, the outfits of the couple catches our
eyes in a blink. For furniture, you can consider a simple stool or a vintage chair.

7) Twirling Around

What would you do to handle your tension on your big day? Shall we whisper you a
trick? Listen up! Close your eyes and twirl swiftly in your lehenga. Twirling around
in your big bouncy skirt outfit will ease your tension and intense emotions. That is
why, the twirl pose is a very important pose in the Indian wedding photography. So,
here we are trying to spice things up a little. At, first, we need a mirror and a royal
background. You may stand before the mirror and twirl happily with eyes open or
closed. Gazing down will intensify the emotion of the photo. Also, your reflection in
the mirror will enhance the overall wedding vibe.

8)Twirl with your Partner

Bridal Poses in Lehenga

As we discussed, twirling in lehenga is also an evergreen pose. For this pose, let us
get your ‘husband to be’ in the frame with you. Basically, we are recreating a
common dance movement. Hold your hand with your partner’s and start twirling like
you are dancing together. Here, the mood of the photo is jolly/merry. Hence, don’t
feel shy to look in the eyes of your partner while twirling around with him. This pose
is an excellent choice for creating fresh couple portraits. Also, choose an outdoor
location to dance. Greenery around is a good option. And as we always say, try to find
a contrasting background to make your outfits glow.

9)Twirling in a Minimal Backdrop

.

Let us dive into the third type of twirling. But this one is for the special attention of
photo editors. Erase the backdrop and keep it plain white and minimal. This will drive
the complete attention of viewers towards the bride, the outfit and the twirl. As a
bride, you just have to do your natural twirl. You can include or avoid your dupatta as
per your choice. If you wish to focus more on your skirt, then go without dupatta. But
if you want to breeze away your dupatta beautifully while you twirl, then grab that
element. Tryout different styles of posing with your hands and arms.

10) Getting Ready

Bridal Poses in Lehenga

ready for her big day and she is already done with her make-up. So, before slipping
into the most special outfit of her life, she is trying to pause that moment, holding her
fabulous skirt. She is looking down, feeling shy and smiling at the same time.
Capturing moments while getting ready is quite special for all brides. You can try
different similar poses to mark these golden moments.

Preethi's father abandoned her family when she was 12. Her mother was really ambitious to pursue a career in medicine and Preethi's father had agreed to it before their marriage. Later, he refused to fulfill his promise. Preeth's father used to physically abuse her mother a lot and due to his abusive behavior, her mother lost 50 percent of eyesight in one of her eyes.

Preethi's mother had to undergo a very intense and traumatic phase due to the fear of losing Preethi to her father. In 10 years' time, her mother realized that there will come a time where she has to take care of little Preethi all on her own. Hence she shifted to Russia for education with Preethi being taken care of by her Mama-Mami. Her mother made sure to visit Preethi once in 3 months.

In the meantime, Preethi's father cheated on her mother by claiming her savings. Once Preethi's mother found out about the matter, she gave up her education in Russia and came back to Preethi. But before she flew back, Preethi's father had already set his journey to Hyderabad and that was the last time Preethi saw her father.

Preethy felt immensely guilty for the difficulties faced by her mother. Her mother soon found a job in a well-reputed firm and she committed to over-time works. Preethi would be already asleep by the time her mother reached home after work. This was Preethi's life for many years. Upon knowing her mother's life, Preethi knew very well about what to find in her partner, subconsciously. The very first thing Preethi noticed in Aben was his dissimilarities with Preethi's father; Aben is extremely honest and open-hearted. Preethi's mother loved Aben when she met him and in 2017, Preethi and Aben decided to get married.

Aben's family was reserved about the proceedings, with Aben being a Christian and Preethi being a Tamil Brahmin. Preethi's mother traveled to Kerala for convincing Aben's parents. But she couldn't get them convinced and she assured Preethi that if Preethi and Aben are happy, she will get them married. In a nutshell, Preethi's mother decided to make use of all her savings to get her daughter married to Aben. Eventually, Aben's family came on good terms.

During the wedding planning, Preethi found out that the 'Kanyadaan' ceremony performed in Tamil weddings is done with the bride being seated on her father's lap. A relative made a suggestion about Preethi being seating on her mother's lap for Kanyadaan. Preethi felt the same because all her life, her mother has been providing her both paternal and maternal care, strength, and love.

Although 5 priests rejected their idea and they argued that it is not right for their culture, Preeti was determined. Within a few weeks, they found a priest who agreed to their idea. While the Kanyadaan was being performed, Preethi and her mother glanced at each other, bursting into tears. Preethi's mother hugged her and ruffled her hair. It was their beautiful moment. It was the least Preethi could do for her mother for what her mother has gone through, giving Preethi the best life. Preethi quotes her mother as a survivor, a warrior, and a protector.
